EC Prestige
The new Howrse EC update in 2015 was a big deal- and it left many players confused. Luckily, I'm going to do my best to help you out with that. ;)
I never had a good handle on the original EC design. In fact, my EC has always sucked, lol, but now with the new thing I'm doing my best to get with the program and be of some use to someone on the subject. To start off with...

What is Prestige?
It looks like this:
It decides how well ranked your EC is, and how the horses in it fare. The better your prestige, the more the horses you house will be happy, and the more people will want to board at your EC. So, with that in mind, you of course want to have great Prestige, and the only way you can do that is to have the knowledge of what effects it. So.... what does? Read on!
THings that effect prestige
EC Comfort
EC Comfort is a concept that rates how comfortable the horses in your EC are going to be. The things under that category are:
According to Howrse, this is one of the more important factors of your overall prestige.
Meadow Prestige
Meadow Prestige is the quality of your meadows. Obviously, that's really all this pertains to.
According to Howrse, this is one of the less important factors in your overall prestige.
Your Center's Capacity
Quality Of The Borders
Instead of the old days where it only counted to Dressage, now it's all of your horse's best skills, compared to the very best skills on the entire game. The closer to the top, the better the prestige- simple as that.
On a side note, the price and skill gains on your lessons are no longer Dressage either- they're based on this very prestige point.
Competitions
This is the same as it always was, but just in case you didn't know about it then, I'll give you the run down. ;)
Comp prestige is based on how often your comps run and the sort of horses that enter- the higher the quality, the better. Most of us are handicapped here since only VIP payers control when their comps run. Normal and Pegasus players can only have theirs run once every 24 hour period. We non-VIPs have to rely on really great horses, so you have to set the difficulty crazy high. Running the comps with two of your own BEST horses is another great way; on a random side note, it just occurred to me that I bet comp runners hate when we enter a good horse against a filler horse of ours since that lowers their comp prestige. lol.
If you run a Western center, you only need worry about the contestants and frequency of your comp runs, but if you're Classical, your racing comps (i.e. gallop, trot) run on racetracks, which you can upgrade. The better the track, the better it is for your prestige.
Oh, and while it is not a theory I have tested, I would presume that the quality of the livestock in your cutting comps in a western EC would also be of some consequence.
EC Comfort is a concept that rates how comfortable the horses in your EC are going to be. The things under that category are:
- Box size: higher the quality, the better
- Bedding: the higher the quality, the better. Best are straw and flax, which you can grow.
- Showers: If your boxes have showers, your comfort rating will go up.
- Food: You can offer fodder, oats, mashes, and carrots; more on that in a minute.
- Tack: Buy it in the store/craft it yourself and offer it. Your borders will leave with your tack, so this is costly. 3*** tack is best for prestige.
- Troughs: Buy or craft these and add them to your boxes like showers.
According to Howrse, this is one of the more important factors of your overall prestige.
Meadow Prestige
Meadow Prestige is the quality of your meadows. Obviously, that's really all this pertains to.
- Fertility of the meadows you have in pasture: It's best at 100% (duh, lol).
- Amount of land per horses you house: Make sure there's enough meadows for everyone!
According to Howrse, this is one of the less important factors in your overall prestige.
Your Center's Capacity
- Number of boxes: The number of horses you can board is important too!
- Number of occupied boxes: at least 50% or higher is best.

How much of what do i need to offer it to the public?
- Fodder: At least 150 per box
- Oats: At least 75 per box
- Carrots: At least 16 per box
- Mashes: At least 15 per box
- Tack: At least 1 of each type (saddle, bridle, blankets, bonnets, leg wraps) per box
How do I manage prestige?
- Keep your stocks in check! If you run out of carrots or tack or what have you, even if you notice it right away, your prestige will suffer between updates, and that's something a center striving for the top can't afford. This comes down to funds, in the end, which comes down to non-EC related things most of the time, seeing as how the reserves are combined now.
- We can now produce our own tack, so that is a little less of a hassle price wise but it takes a TON of time (depending in the size of your workshop anyway). Like I said earlier, boarders leave with your tack (which I think is kind of rude, don't these horses get the concept of borrowing?! lol) so it is very costly either way- buying or crafting.
- The price you charge is important too. You can charge between 20e and 200e per night. Now, that may seem outrageous to you- 200e a night- but consider all the stuff you can offer now. If you were to offer all that and charge 20e per night... well, let's just say you don't have to go very far down that road to find a tomb stone marking the death of your reserve. You need a balance between affordability and income; it's up to you to find it.
- As of March, 2015, 2* tack and 3*** tack have DIFFERENT prestige effects; 3*** is required for a maximum comfort rating. Keep that in mind!
At the moment, I'm in the VERY early stages of using this new system on my EC, so I don't have any other tips right now, but I will (hopefully) soon!
