How To Make Banners & Avatars
Banners and Avatars are almost the same, just a size difference, so I've grouped them together. :)
How To Make Banners:
Don't ever use the banner generator on Howrse Info.
Don't use MyBannerMaker.com either because it's limited and yucky and has a watermark.
The same thing for bannerfans.
And dito for Pizap.
Use ribbet.com. Ribbet is the best graphics maker ever. It does everything for free and you don't need an account if you don't need your stuff saved online.
PLUS there is no watermark!
Ribbet is not a generator. It is a MAKER. Like Graphics software, only online. They do require my brain power to make. ;-)
Here is how I do it:
Yes, it is that easy- any photos you see me use were done with Ribbet and I highly recommend you check it out!
Ribbet, under the "pro" tab, and then under the "advanced editors", has a GIMP like editor called a Pixlr editor (or something like that) although I do my manips in GIMP because it's a little easier for me, but if you don't want to download anything ribbet's editor might be a good, free option.

Here is how I do it:
- Find the image you want your message to be on
- Upload it to Ribbet
- Do what needs doing. You can add text, overlay other images, add "stickers" like hearts and stuff and make them fade or change their color, make the photo appear to have been taken with different filters and add effects, add borders, and even change people's eye colors and skin blemishes and stuff!
- When you're done click the "Save and Share" button on the tab on the top tight.
- You're done!

Another thing you can do is animated text. To do that you need to use an online editor called lunapic.com. I do not recommend using lunapic for anything but animated text. It doesn't produce good quality images (they come out a bit fuzzy) and it's hard to use, but for text it works okay, although I'm not very pleased with the font choices.
Another editor is for glitter and glitter text, it's glitterbase.com, but that's a pretty self explanatory thing. ;)
- Go to lunnapic.com
- Click edit a photo
- Click browse
- Select the image
- Click upload
- Then it'll take you to the editor, there you can click draw > text tool and use the editor there. The animation selector is on the right.
- Do what you wanted with the text and then click apply, then right click the image and select "save as"
- And you're done!

You can use Fotor as well, but it's basically the same thing as ribbet with less than half the fonts and way less effects, and no touch up section... but they have a free mobile editing app for apple products on iTunes ans android products on Google Play, so if you want edit on the go it's the best mobile one I know of.
Here's some examples!
I made the one below with ribbet.com. I changed the sky to blue from a night sky, and added text, and the heart.

This one was made with Fotor, I used the color splash effect to turn it black and white and then I colored the water back in with it's original color. (you can also do that in ribbet by the way, and with a way more accurate brush). Then I added text.
This one was done with Lunapic.com. I added the text (which took me forever- why I dislike the editor unless you do animation) and added a pouring rain effect.
How To Make Avatars:
To make Avatars I again use Ribbet but depending on what you want (to make it from a mobile device, or to make it like regular, or to have animation, or to have glitter) there is one little trick which you probably didn't think of that makes this a heck of a lot easier then it might sound.
- Find the image you want to use in an allowable image search (so you don't steal anything).
- Instead of clicking on the image and THEN right clicking it to save as, right click the thumbnail preview and save it.
- You do that because Google re sizes it to Avatar size already in the search and you don't have to! The image saves that size! Nifty huh? ;)
- Upload the image to Ribbet.com, Fotor.com, lunapic.com, or glitterbase.com
- Do whatever you want to do with it
- And that's it!
